HP Computers

Updated August 2008

You can definately save on HP Computers. The low-end offers are difficult to improve upon, but the more expensive offers can certainly be bettered. Visually the HP is very boring as well, just look at it! Can it get more dull than that? Anyway, I have prepared a comparison with The HP Pavilion Elite d5000t, the top model. It offers a lot of juicy stuff, more so then the Dell XPS 630.

To check the configuration of the HP Pavilion Elite d5000t go to www.hp.com. At the time of writing (August 2008) the d5000t had the following components:HP Computers

  • CPU: Intel Q9450 Core 2 Quad 2.67 GHz
  • OS: Microsoft Vista Home Premium SP1
  • Optical Drive: DVDRW 16x
  • RAM: 3 GB DDR2 800
  • Hard Drive: 500 GB SATA2
  • Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9600GS 768MB
  • Sound: 7.1 Channel on-board
  • Keyboard/Mouse: HP
Total cost: US$ 999.99 + 250 (CPU and Video upgrade) = US$ 1249.99

Now take a look at The Smasher below. Pretty much the same components as the HP Computers, no big difference. The configuration above of the HP d5000t is not the basic one. I opted for the Q9450 instead, since it has 12 MB of L2 cache compared to 6 MB for the Q9300. I also upgrade the Video Card to a GeForce 9600GS, because the standard GeForce 9300GT is to puny for this type of CPU. Only the RAM is DDR2 1066 on The Smasher. And the Power Supply is better, very silent at 19 dB. Otherwise pretty much the same.

Of course the case, Raidmax Aztec, is very beautiful and cannot be compared at all to the black HP. I personally find it very important that I like the case, perhaps you are not a picky as I but then the savings might interest you more. US$ 104 is not that much but still it would get you along way towards a premium quality monitor. And if you want to overclock, then it is very easy with The Smasher. Try overclocking the HP - tough luck.
