Cheap Computers
Updated August 2008Here I present two Cheap Computers. These are real budget systems. Don't imagine playing any fancy games like the latest FEAR and Quake or do heavy video editing on this System. It is fine though for all common and everyday tasks, like surfing the web, Messenger, Chat, text editing, spreadsheets, etc. Both of these two systems are easy to build and very competitive when compared to HP or Dell alternatives. I have used AMD processors in both configurations because AMD is a better deal in the lowest price range. Both configurations include Monitor. Cheap computers #1

Comment: For less than US$500, this system is not bad at all taking into account that it includes a Monitor. Of course it lacks many bells and whistles, but the performance is fair. The MSI Motherboard is decent, actually one of the better ones with on-board graphics. The CPU is an AMD dual-core so you shouldn't be left without juice even if you are attempting some more advanced stuff. Perhaps the two things that might put you off is the small Hard Drive (160 GB) and the OS (Mandriva Linux). Upgrade the Hard Drive to 320GB or even 500 GB for more space. The Mandriva Linux is very good and amazingly similar to Windows and it should work fine with the GeForce 8200.

Comments: This system is different from the above due to the use of an ASUS Barebone. As you can see, many components are the same. Due to Radeon X1250 low compatibility with Linux, I have exchanged Mandriva with Windows Vista and that is also reflected in the price. The ASUS barebone also includes a Media Card reader, which can be useful if you want to keep your photos on your computer. The price is still good as it includes a Monitor.
